Hayes claimed two wins in a weekend sweep for Southeastern Louisiana (34-17, 17-7 SLC) over Sam Houston State (19-31, 10-14 SLC). This also earned the Lions a berth in the Southland postseason tournament. Softball Hitter of the Week – Amber Landry, Stephen F. Austin – 3B – Sr. – Ponchatoula, La.Senior third baseman Amber Landry led a recovery from a 5-0 loss to McNeese in the opening game of this weekend’s series. The senior from Ponchatoula, La., helped SFA to its sixth-straight series win and seventh of the season by batting 4-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base in the Ladyjacks’ 11-8 game two triumph. She had two doubles in the game, including a two-RBI double in the fourth inning, adding a two-run home run in the sixth to provide SFA the go-ahead runs. She completed the series with a leadoff double in the fourth inning of game three, setting up an RBI double to score the Ladyjacks’ first run of the game. It provided a comeback from down 3-0 en route to the one-run win to give the team the series win heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Softball Pitcher of the Week – Rachel Hayes, Southeastern Louisiana – Sr. – Ocean Springs, Miss.Hayes once again went 2-0 in the circle for the week, pitching Southeastern Louisiana to a three-game sweep of Sam Houston State and helping the Lions set a new single-season school record for victories. In the series opener, she struck out eight and did not allow an earned run, scattering four hits in the 5-4 victory. She held the Bearkats to just two hits in her fourth complete-game shutout of the season. After starting the season 2-5, she has now won 13 of her last 15 decisions in the circle – including her last six. In Southland play, she is on a current eight-game winning streak and is 12-2, carrying league lows in ERA (1.50) and opponents’ batting average (.152).
