Drake Hosts 52nd Annual Cornfeed

first_img Photo Gallery The Drake Bulldog Club held its 52nd annual Corn Feed on Aug. 29 in the Courtside Club of the Shivers Basketball Practice Facility.The evening featured a dinner buffet, question and answer sessions with Drake head coaches and student-athletes, remarks from director of athletics Sandy Hatfield Clubb and a special award presentation of the Paul Morrison Golden Bulldog Award.The highlight of the night was the presentation of the 2016 Paul F. Morrison Golden Bulldog Award to Dr. Sue Beckwith for her tremendous commitment to Drake Athletics in helping to make the Bright-Beckwith Boathouse a reality for the Drake University rowing program. For more information on the Bright-Beckwith Boathouse, click here.The Paul F. Morrison Golden Bulldog Award is presented annually to a Drake donor by Drake Athletics. The award recognizes the dedicated and loyal support of the Bulldog Club, and Drake Athletics through consistent exemplary service, leadership and financial support.Ric Silvestrini served as the emcee for the Corn Feed. After opening remarks from Silvestrini the program featured question and answer sessions with all of Drake’s head coach and student-athletes from each team.The athletic department also honored three of its student-athletes with some of the most prestigious awards the department bestows upon its student-athletes. Football’s John Hugunin and cross country/track and field’s Emma Huston were recognized as the recipients of the Howlett Award. The honor is given annually to the Bulldogs’ top male and female student-athletes. Football’s Zach Zlabis was also honored with the Dixie Byers Comeback Player of the Year award. The award is given to a student-athlete that has battled adversity or injury to return to the playing field. It is named after longtime Drake supporter Dixie Byers who has battled back from cancer numerous times to continue supporting the Bulldogs. The annual Corn Feed serves an opportunity for an entertaining night in which the Bulldog Club expresses appreciation to its current members and encourages prospective members to join the Club, while mingling with coaches, student-athletes and athletics staff.Bulldog Club president Holly Dierks also took the stage to close the evening to thank those in the crowd for their support of the club and the entire athletics department. The mission and vision of the Bulldog Club is to serve as ambassadors of Drake Athletics to the public; provide leadership in financial support to Drake Athletics; and assist in the recruitment, cultivation and stewardship of annual donors to the Bulldog Club.For more information about the Bulldog Club and how to join, please contact Austin Strawhacker, at 515-271-2228 or [email protected] Friendly Version Story Linkslast_img read more
