Controversy as nine-man Chelsea lose

first_imgChelsea 2 Manchester United 3Branislav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres were both sent off and Javier Hernandez scored the winner from an offside position as Chelsea’s unbeaten league record was lost in controversial circumstances.A disastrous first 12 minutes saw them fall 2-0 behind, an unfortunate David Luiz own goal and a Robin van Persie strike putting Manchester United in command.Chelsea ended the first half strongly and almost scored when defender Jonny Evans turned John Obi Mikel’s cross onto his own post and Gary Cahill went close with a header from the resulting corner.Luiz scored an own goal.Juan Mata’s inch-perfect free-kick and Ramires’ header either side of half-time then wiped out the visitors’ lead. But in a stormy six-minute period in the second half, Ivanovic saw red for a last-man foul on Ashley Young and Torres was harshly dismissed after picking up a second yellow card for diving.United made the extra men count as Hernandez turned in Rafael’s cross-shot from close range – but replays showed he was offside.Chelsea’s defence parted at will early on, allowing United’s attackers far too much space. They were unfortunate for the first goal, as Van Persie’s shot hit the bar and cannoned in off Luiz, but they were caught napping for the second, as Antonio Valencia fed the Dutchman for a crisp finish.Chelsea emerged from their early slumber to force United keeper David De Gea into several fine stops, the best from Luiz’s free-kick and Torres’ header.Mata reduced the arrears on the stroke of half-time with a brilliant free-kick and Ramires crashed home a header just after the break to level. But after Ivanovic’s dismissal, Chelsea were dealt another blow when Torres was adjudged to have dived despite appearing to be fouled by Evans. The decision enraged the Chelsea bench, with assistant coach Steve Holland squaring up to United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. And Chelsea were left further aggrieved when Hernandez’s goal was allowed to stand.Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Cech; Ivanovic, Luiz, Cahill, Cole; Ramires, Mikel; Oscar (Azpilicueta 65), Hazard (Sturridge 82), Mata (Bertrand 72); Torres. Subs not used: Turnbull, Romeu, Moses, Marin.See also:Angry Chelsea boss blasts ClattenburgChelsea v Man Utd player ratingsWhy Clattenburg could end up costing Chelsea the titleFollow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Delicious Chrome Extension Early Beta Now Available

first_imgBookmarking service Delicious has just rolled out a Google Chrome browser extension.Like other Chrome extensions we love to play with, this one is lightweight, fast and useful. There’s no bulky sidebar here. Bookmarks can be created and saved with a miniscule “TAG” button and they can be searched from Chrome’s excellent omnibar. So, do you think this will prompt loyal Delicious users – many of whom had been holding out on Chrome in favor of Firefox – to switch to Google Chrome entirely? This is what the button and simple form for bookmarking a page look like: Related Posts The Dos and Don’ts of Brand Awareness Videos Tags:#Social Bookmarking#web Facebook is Becoming Less Personal and More Pro… A Comprehensive Guide to a Content Audit While this extension doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of some of Delicious’ other browser add-ons, the team noted that the public demand for a Chrome extension prompted them to release a beta earlier than they would have liked.“It doesn’t have all the API’s needed and it’s missing a good chunk of the functionality we believe it needs, but we’re getting so many requests for the Chrome extension that we’re going to make this available sooner than we originally planned…“As soon as Chrome is able to support the functionality needed we’ll ensure the features of this extension matches that of our other browser add-ons. There are still some interactions we’re not quite happy with that we’ll address shortly, but we wanted to give you an official Google Chrome extension as soon as possible.”What do you think? Thin Reads Launches to Track EBook Singles Market

first_imgA new web-based e-book singles aggregator launched this week. Called Thin Reads and started by Howard Polskin, who left his executive vice president post at the MPA in December, it’s a consumer-facing database of e-book singles available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble and iBookstore.E-book singles, defined as works of short fiction or non-fiction that are between 5,000 and 25,000 words long, have been a burgeoning market, one that has its fingers in magazine publishing as well. The Atlantic just formed a partnership with Longreads—and Hearst, Rodale and Condé Nast, among others, have all been selling e-books and e-singles for the last couple years. So far, Thin Reads has a database of more than 700 e-book singles dating back to 2010, from more than 150 publishers. Polskin is segmenting out data including title, pub date, publisher, author, description, length and retail platform.Early findings note that 54 percent of e-singles available in the Thin Reads database are “original” works, meaning they were created originally for the electronic platform.Conversely, Thin Reads data reveals that 12 percent of e-singles are “encore” works, meaning they’ve appeared previously in another format.last_img read more

A packed theatre at CES welcomed the hour-long advertisement from the Yahoo CEO because, well, it was interesting and entertaining. It was about the most important people: us. Whether it was David Pogue, the new vp of content, unveiling the Yahoo Tech digital magazine or Katie Couric, the new global anchor for Yahoo, talking about the importance of trust-worthy journalism, Mayer made sure the key takeaway for stockholders (and us) was that Yahoo was innovating, pivoting and rejiggering for none other than us. Yahoo is a platform customizable to your habits, so much so that it just acquired a service called Aviate that predicts which apps you’ll need at any given moment and moves them to your homescreen (we don’t have time anymore to swipe to the next screen). The CES audience, which comprises what Pogue called “the Geekheads” versus 85 percent of everyone else, “the Normals”, wanted to hear what Yahoo has done to become relevant again and what it will do to become more useful. As is evident in the 3,200+ exhibits at CES this year, technology is complex and the choices for how we spend our time are abundant. Yahoo and other brand leaders are answering the call to give us what we want when we want it. Mayer’s goal could mirror most brands’: to turn “complexity into clarity.” For Yahoo that means focusing on four key areas: Search, Communications, Digital Magazines (mini-sites, not actual magazines) and Video. Its acquisition of Flickr and Tumblr validate what we already know to be true: that photos and storytelling are the future, and most likely on your mobile device. Its hiring of Katie Couric sent a message to its community that a quality interview requires a great interviewer. A few SNL “Weekly Update” cast members, plus a John Legend mini-concert—all during Mayer’s keynote—were crafted to showcase Yahoo’s coolness.     Mayer and her cohort of presenters representing Yahoo wanted us to know that personalization and simplification are what we should expect from this media brand starting now. It should get many marketers and media companies thinking the same thing about their brands. The challenge is that being simple is not so simple.last_img read more

SpiceJet shares skyrocket 6 close to 52week high

first_imgA SpiceJet passenger plane moves on the runway at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad January 8, 2014.Reuters fileShares of low-cost carrier SpiceJet rose as much as 6.33 percent to hit an intraday high of Rs 82.70 on the BSE before shedding gains and were trading at Rs 82 at around 2.45 pm. Other aviation stocks such as IndiGo-owner Interglobe Aviation and Jet Airways were trading with minor gains. The 52-week high for SpiceJet is Rs 85.60.The spurt in SpiceJet share prices was apparently due to the carrier’s CMD Ajay Singh saying that the Delhi government’s decision to slash sales on ATF prices from 25 percent to 1 percent on RCS routes will benefit the company. RCS, or regional connectivity scheme, is aimed at promoting aviation services in remote areas of the country. SpiceJet is one of the carriers to have bid for flying under the scheme. The government of India is likely to officially announce the RCS routes to the concerned carriers and services are expected to commence as early as April.”…it seems that what the Delhi government has done is they have passed on that same benefit aircraft which are fuelling in Delhi. So all aircraft which are flying under the RCS scheme, when they fuel their aircraft in Delhi will have to pay a reduced sales tax of 1 percent when they travel on these RCS routes,” Ajay Singh told news channel CNBC-TV18.Under the RCS norms, airlines serving the destinations will be entitled to ATF that will attract a concessional sales tax rate of 1 percent. Once the same is extended by the Delhi government also, it would result in cost savings for SpiceJet, Singh added. In January 2017, SpiceJet’s market share in the domestic air traffic business stood at 12.8 percent. The largest carrier by volume is IndiGo, at about 40 percent. Domestic carriers flew 95.79 lakh (9.57 million) passengers during the month, marking a growth of 25.13 percent over 76.55 lakh passengers flown in January 2016.There are 12 domestic carriers in the Indian civil aviation space comprising budget carriers IndiGo, SpiceJet and AirAsia India, and full-service airlines including national carrier Air India, Jet Airways and Vistara. The Tatas have a stake in AirAsia India and Vistara, the latter co-owned by Singapore Airlines.last_img read more
