Newsletter Sales Strategies

first_imgThe biggest problem in selling newsletter ads is the low open rate, which is on average, about 25 percent. For first-time newsletter media buyers, the open rate often comes as a shock. I have seen new customers balk at open rates when they first hear them, saying, “How can I buy advertising in a media where 3/4ths of the audience don’t even open it?” A fair question and one we need to be prepared to respond to.I have seen some media salespeople plead ignorance on open rates, saying their publisher just doesn’t know what the numbers are. This is ridiculous, and every experienced media buyer knows it. E-mail newsletter service companies always tell their clients what their open rates are. A media buyer who hears “no one knows what our open rate is” will and should assume the worst and act accordingly. It is much better to deal with the open rate head on. First consider that because of the CAN-SPAM laws all newsletters must contain an easy “opt out” function. Knowing this, you need to shift the question from “How come only 25 percent of our newsletter readers opened the last newsletter” to “Why don’t the 75 percent who did not open the newsletter simply opt out?”Think about it. These readers did originally opt in, did not open the newsletter’s last issue, but did not opt out either. Why?People stay subscribed, but do not open newsletters, when other things are more important to them at the time the newsletter arrives. There may also be some undercounting because subscribers who read newsletters in the reader pane of Outlook or other newsletter readers but do not overtly open the newsletter, will not be counted as readers. From Unopened to Latent ReadersBut these are smaller arguments. Here is the big one: The “unopen” subscribers may not be engaged in the subject area of your newsletter but will return again. In essence, sell the “unopened newsletter circulation” as being “latent readers” and “latent buyers.” Here is how: First, ask your client about the buying cycle of their products. B-to-b products may be on annual fiscal cycles. Consumer products go through cycles as well. Right after a product is bought the customer who purchased might be out of the market for a period of time. Any advertiser who expects all of their potential buyers to make purchases every week a newsletter goes out is unrealistic. Now ask your client if they would be interested in buying exposure to a mailing list of people who have a proven interest in their product category, are not actively buying at this moment, but could return to buying mode at any moment. This describes the latent readers and buyers who did not open the last issue. To get full credit for the media buy you need to sell the importance of your newsletter including the value of the 75 percent or so of readers who did not open the last issue. Newsletters provide an ongoing way for advertisers to stay in touch, inexpensively, with targeted groups of readers/customers. If you can encourage a long term view of the media buy it can be a tremendously beneficial purchase for your client. Josh Gordon is president of SmarterMediaSales.com, a training and consulting company that helps publishers grow their online business. Gordon also publishes a blog at AdSalesBlog.com. One of the great services traditional print ad salespeople did for the marketing world was to encourage year-long media buys that fostered ongoing communication. There were legendary moments when the best of us refused “one shot” ads while advocating comprehensive ad schedules.Sadly, a lot of the online media we now sell takes more of a “direct response” mentality. Campaigns are created to generate an immediate response, not long-term dialogue. The core benefit of a newsletter ad campaign is to create ongoing communication with a targeted audience.Supporting this, many publishers price newsletter ads more like “annuities” than ad space by charging premium pricing for advertisers who sign up for three months or less while granting big discounts for advertisers who commit to six months or a full year. Like life insurance annuities, an annual newsletter media buy doesn’t have to cost a lot every month, but with a long term commitment, a publisher or insurance company can run a profitable business over time.Overcoming Low Open Rateslast_img read more

A packed theatre at CES welcomed the hour-long advertisement from the Yahoo CEO because, well, it was interesting and entertaining. It was about the most important people: us. Whether it was David Pogue, the new vp of content, unveiling the Yahoo Tech digital magazine or Katie Couric, the new global anchor for Yahoo, talking about the importance of trust-worthy journalism, Mayer made sure the key takeaway for stockholders (and us) was that Yahoo was innovating, pivoting and rejiggering for none other than us. Yahoo is a platform customizable to your habits, so much so that it just acquired a service called Aviate that predicts which apps you’ll need at any given moment and moves them to your homescreen (we don’t have time anymore to swipe to the next screen). The CES audience, which comprises what Pogue called “the Geekheads” versus 85 percent of everyone else, “the Normals”, wanted to hear what Yahoo has done to become relevant again and what it will do to become more useful. As is evident in the 3,200+ exhibits at CES this year, technology is complex and the choices for how we spend our time are abundant. Yahoo and other brand leaders are answering the call to give us what we want when we want it. Mayer’s goal could mirror most brands’: to turn “complexity into clarity.” For Yahoo that means focusing on four key areas: Search, Communications, Digital Magazines (mini-sites, not actual magazines) and Video. Its acquisition of Flickr and Tumblr validate what we already know to be true: that photos and storytelling are the future, and most likely on your mobile device. Its hiring of Katie Couric sent a message to its community that a quality interview requires a great interviewer. A few SNL “Weekly Update” cast members, plus a John Legend mini-concert—all during Mayer’s keynote—were crafted to showcase Yahoo’s coolness.     Mayer and her cohort of presenters representing Yahoo wanted us to know that personalization and simplification are what we should expect from this media brand starting now. It should get many marketers and media companies thinking the same thing about their brands. The challenge is that being simple is not so simple.last_img read more

Politicians call for crackdown on social media toxic swamp after mosque shooting

first_img But while Morrison did not mention the likes of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube by name, his political opponent, Labor leader Shorten, was more forthright.”A platform like Facebook goes to potential advertisers and says, ‘We know everything about the users of Facebook, we can tell you everything so that you can geo-target and you can market to them,'” Shorten wrote in an op-ed for the Herald-Sun newspaper. “Well, if that’s your business model, fair enough; but you can’t go missing when it comes to hate speech.””Social media is a marvelous tool that has the potential to empower us, but too often it resembles a toxic swamp where wrongdoers can hide and where evil is nurtured,” he added. The comments follow a terrorist attack in New Zealand on Friday, when a gunman entered a mosque in central Christchurch and shot worshipers while they prayed, livestreaming the shooting on Facebook. The attack, which also involved a second shooting at another Christchurch mosque, claimed 50 lives. The alleged attacker, Brenton Harrison Tarrant, was an Australian national. While Facebook and Twitter deleted the alleged attacker’s social media accounts within hours of the attack, footage of the shooting spread quickly. The roughly 17-minute live clip was downloaded from Facebook and reuploaded across the internet on sites such as YouTube, with some users editing out the more graphic content in an attempt to circumvent censors. In a statement, a spokesperson for Twitter said the company was “committed to working and cooperating with governments around the world, particularly as it relates to safety and wellbeing” and that it has “rigorous and rapid response processes in place” for emergency situations.Facebook has previously said it deleted 1.5 million versions of the video within the first 24 hours of the attack. But Morrison is calling for a tougher approach to weeding out extremist content on the internet, saying technology firms have a “moral obligation to protect the communities which they serve and from which they profit.” He added that social media companies, content service providers and gaming platforms all had a part to play to keep communities safe. “We know that violent extremists use the internet for recruitment, radicalisation and to carry out their evil acts,” the prime minister’s letter reads. “That they will continue to try to use any means their disposal does not mean governments and technology firms should abrogate their responsibilities to keep our communities safe.”Facebook did not respond to a request for comment.Originally published March 18 at 5:32 p.m. PT.Update on March 18 at 9:27 p.m.: Adds comments from Australian opposition leader Bill Shorten.Update on March 19 at 4:02 p.m.: Adds comment from Twitter.  Related storiescenter_img Tags 1:23 Comment Facebook deletes 1.5M videos after shooting, Democrats… Tech Industry Internet Now playing: Watch this:last_img read more

2020 Audi S6 gets its USmarket pricing still no Avant though

first_img6:29 Audi’s corporate grille keeps getting bigger, but so does the S6’s performance. We’ll let it slide. Audi We’ve known the specs of the forthcoming 2020 Audi S6 for a while now, for both European and US models, but one thing we’ve been kept in the dark on was just how much it’d cost stateside. Not anymore. Audi on Thursday announced US pricing for its hotted-up midsizer, and we’re definitely interested. So just how much can you expect to shell out for your fancy German Q-ship? For the entry-level Premium Plus trim, you’ll spend $73,900, which actually compares favorably with the E53 AMG, which is only slightly cheaper but down 15 hp and a whopping 59 pound-feet of torque. Step up to the top-level Prestige trim at $77,800, and you’re more in BMW M550i xDrive territory, where the S6 is way down on power compared with the 4.4-liter turbo V8 in the Bimmer.Unlike the Euro model, our S6 will run on gasoline and be powered by the same 2.9-liter V6 engine that produces an extremely healthy 444 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque in the Audi RS 5. It’s is a very healthy if not wildly exciting powerplant, but this car isn’t exactly meant to be a hooligan. Unfortunately, there’s still no sign of the nerd-catnip Avant wagon version coming to the US.Some of the other highlights of the 2020 S6 include a 48-volt mild hybrid system that powers (among other things) an electric compressor that seeks to eliminate or at the very least drastically reduce turbo lag, making the engine more responsive. The compressor spins at a slow-compared-with-a-turbo 70,000 rpm but has a superfast 250-millisecond response time. The S6, of course, gets Quattro all-wheel drive and Audi’s latest eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox as standard and there will be an optional S sport package, for those drivers who want to turn the wick up a bit on a back road. Pompeo to visit Delhi before ModiTrump meeting

first_imgUS Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced that he will be visiting India later this month to build on “an incredibly important relationship” that is “closely tied economically”.Pompeo’s visit will take place as the two countries get ready for a meeting between a newly re-elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump during the G-20 Summit on June 28 and 29 in Osaka, Japan. In preparation for his visit, Pompeo will be outlining to Indian business leaders in Washington on Wednesday “what we’ve been working on for my entire time here in the Indo-Pacific”, he told reporters at the State Department on Monday.Pompeo’s focus on economic ties comes amid stresses in trade relations from Trump’s America First policy and priority to cut trade deficits.”I’m looking forward to the opportunity both to give the set of remarks about how it is our relationship is so closely tied economically, but also importantly the things that the United States and India can continue to do to build out what is an incredibly important relationship for both countries,” he said.Modi and Trump are to meet during the G-20 Summit hosted by Japan in Osaka on June 28 and 29.Pompeo described India as “an important part of President Trump’s strategy in the Indo-Pacific”.His visit to the region starting on June 24 will “broaden and deepen our partnership with key countries to advance our shared goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific”, State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said on Monday.”Prime Minister Modi’s recent election victory provides an excellent opportunity for him to implement his vision for a strong and prosperous India that plays a leading role on the global stage,” she added. After India, Pompeo is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka.Pompeo is to deliver the keynote address on Wednesday to the two-day India Ideas Summit of the US-India Business Council on “The US and India: An Economic Foundation for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.India has been in Trump’s trade crosshairs. The US ended tariff concessions to some imports from India under the General Scheme of Preferences earlier this month accusing New Delhi of not giving “equitable and reasonable access” to its markets.India was also hit by Trump imposing 25 per cent tariff on steel imports and 10 aluminium imports last year. India has threatened retaliatory tariffs on agricultural imports from the US.Trump has criticised India several times over import duties on Harley Davidson motorcycles, which are a favourite of a section of his base, and whiskey, a product of Kentucky state that was one of his electoral bastions.India has also criticised the US tightening restrictions on H1-B professional visas that affects technology workers from India and moves to strip the spouses of the visa-holders of work permits.India has also been affected by the harsh oil sanctions on Iran and Washington’s refusal to extend the exemption given to New Delhi for buying oil from Teheran. The trade diplomacy baton appears to have been passed on to Pompeo from Trump officials with primary responsibility. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, the principal negotiator, did not make an expected visit to India last year and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross cancelled a visit in February.Although Trump’s Indo-Pacific strategy that places democracies India and the US as “bookends of stability” for the region is girded by shared defence interests, the economic factor has also been introduced into it.Late last month, the Quad countries — India, Australia, Japan and the US that are the key players in balancing China in the Indo-Pacific — discussed leveraging the power of the private sector by encouraging “transparent, principles-based investment in quality infrastructure”.This would be a strategy to counter China’s economic diplomacy that promotes infrastructure development in its quest for global influence. The US wants to increase military hardware sales to India and Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Clarke Cooper, who oversees defence sales, visited India days after the Indian elections. The State Department said before his visit that the agenda was to focus on “expanding our security cooperation, and furthering opportunities for American industry” and noted that US-India bilateral defence trade has risen from virtually zero in 2008 to $15 billion now.But India buying the Russian S-400 anti-missile defence system could be a roadblock to the US expanding military sales to India. The US has retaliated against NATO partner Turkey over its planned purchase of the system denying the sale of F-35 stealth jets and restricting training for its air force. While Washington opposes India’s purchase of the S-400, it has not directly threatened sanctions. Pompeo is expected to try to persuade India to drop the purchase and offer alternatives.last_img read more

SpiceJet shares skyrocket 6 close to 52week high

first_imgA SpiceJet passenger plane moves on the runway at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad January 8, 2014.Reuters fileShares of low-cost carrier SpiceJet rose as much as 6.33 percent to hit an intraday high of Rs 82.70 on the BSE before shedding gains and were trading at Rs 82 at around 2.45 pm. Other aviation stocks such as IndiGo-owner Interglobe Aviation and Jet Airways were trading with minor gains. The 52-week high for SpiceJet is Rs 85.60.The spurt in SpiceJet share prices was apparently due to the carrier’s CMD Ajay Singh saying that the Delhi government’s decision to slash sales on ATF prices from 25 percent to 1 percent on RCS routes will benefit the company. RCS, or regional connectivity scheme, is aimed at promoting aviation services in remote areas of the country. SpiceJet is one of the carriers to have bid for flying under the scheme. The government of India is likely to officially announce the RCS routes to the concerned carriers and services are expected to commence as early as April.”…it seems that what the Delhi government has done is they have passed on that same benefit aircraft which are fuelling in Delhi. So all aircraft which are flying under the RCS scheme, when they fuel their aircraft in Delhi will have to pay a reduced sales tax of 1 percent when they travel on these RCS routes,” Ajay Singh told news channel CNBC-TV18.Under the RCS norms, airlines serving the destinations will be entitled to ATF that will attract a concessional sales tax rate of 1 percent. Once the same is extended by the Delhi government also, it would result in cost savings for SpiceJet, Singh added. In January 2017, SpiceJet’s market share in the domestic air traffic business stood at 12.8 percent. The largest carrier by volume is IndiGo, at about 40 percent. Domestic carriers flew 95.79 lakh (9.57 million) passengers during the month, marking a growth of 25.13 percent over 76.55 lakh passengers flown in January 2016.There are 12 domestic carriers in the Indian civil aviation space comprising budget carriers IndiGo, SpiceJet and AirAsia India, and full-service airlines including national carrier Air India, Jet Airways and Vistara. The Tatas have a stake in AirAsia India and Vistara, the latter co-owned by Singapore Airlines.last_img read more

IndiGo rift set to worsen as Bhatia camp plans to grill Gangwal

first_imgAn IndiGo aircraft on the landing approach. The differences between the low-cost airline’s promoters has reached market regulator Sebi.twitterIndia’s biggest airline by market share, IndiGo, is headed towards more trouble with differences between co-founders Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal. The Rahul Bhatia camp will question Gangwal about his “exclusive parleys” with engine maker Pratt & Whitney (PW) ahead of the airline’s latest engine order, said a media report. Though PW has been the engine supplier for IndiGo’s Airbus planes, the latest $20 billion order was given to rival CFM – a joint venture between GE and France’s Safran – after a competitive bidding process.”The board is examining whether Gangwal complied with his fiduciary duties, as director, to keep it informed of developments related to aircraft, spares, and OEM (original equipment manufacturer) purchases,” Economic Times reported. IndiGo had finalised the order with PW for 150 Airbus A320 neo planes of an outstanding order book of 280 planes. The $20 billion order was for the remaining planes, though the reason for a change of vendor was not clear. There were suggestions that the airline was influenced by the reported malfunctioning of some of the A320 neo engines.”Within a fortnight, Gangwal wrote back to board members in an email communication that the competitive bidding process would be a lame idea as he had been told by PW that they will not participate in an RFP process, if the terms are changed,” added the report, citing a source close to Bhatia’s IGE Group. PW eventually participate in the IndiGo bidding process. The board members may call Gangwal to explain why he “kept the critical market intelligence to himself and not inform the board of his exclusive parleys with PW.” In a letter to the board on June 12, Bhatia had written that on realising Gangwal’s refusal to lend his hand in the company’s ongoing negotiations with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), the company had proceeded to make alternate arrangements for the purpose. The report went on to say, “In hindsight, however, the company will remain eternally grateful to Gangwal for having attempted to hold the company’s business to ransom (by purposely delaying the ongoing negotiations with OEMs), as this paved the way for the company to institutionalize an area of operations which Gangwal had kept as his exclusive preserve.” IndiGolast_img read more

Photo: AFPMore than 100 Muslim scholars from around the world meeting Wednesday in the Saudi holy city of Mecca issued an urgent appeal for peace in Afghanistan as they ended a two-day conference.”The solution to the cause of the Muslim Afghani must particularly go through mutual understanding and direct peaceful negotiations,” read the closing declaration.”Reconciling between battling Muslims is one of the greatest and most honoured acts of worship,” it said. The international gathering, which focused on prospects for peace in Afghanistan, was sponsored by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, based in nearby Jeddah.Yousef al-Othaimeen, the head of the 57-member pan-Islamic organisation, ended the meeting by urging a ceasefire for Afghanistan.”The OIC calls on all parties to observe a truce, respect a ceasefire and enter into direct negotiations,” he told reporters at the close of the conference. The scholars were received on Wednesday by Saudi King Salman, who expressed his country’s committment to a peaceful resolution in Afghanistan, according to state news agency SPA.The Taliban ignored an invitation from the OIC to attend the Mecca conference, Saudi daily Asharq al-Awsat reported Wednesday. Thus far, the Taliban has not responded to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s offers for dialogue, instead demanding to sit down with the United States, which has dismissed this proposal.Attacks occur on a near-daily basis in Afghanistan, where the US toppled the Taliban from power 17 years ago. On Wednesday, an unclaimed attack on an education department facility in eastern Afghanistan left at least 11 people dead.A recent ceasefire between Afghan security forces and the Taliban during the Islamic holiday Eid had raised hopes that an end to hostilities in the war-weary country was possible. But the Taliban refused the government’s request to extend their three-day ceasefire, launching attacks that have seen scores killed or injured.last_img read more

Major Traffic Delays This Weekend I45 Totally Shut Down In Downtown Houston

first_img Share Listen 00:00 /02:11 Oversized trucks hitting bridges is nothing new around Houston. One of the most recent incidents happened in September when a truck hit the West Dallas bridge over I-45. It’s been under a load limit ever since. Instead of repairing the bridge, TxDOT’s Danny Perez says they decided to go ahead and replace it.“We’re raising it approximately 13 to 14 inches,” explains Perez. “It’ll have the same footprint as the current bridge that is out there now, which will include the same lane widths and the same sidewalk width.”As for why they’re closing I-45 to do that work, Perez says they want to complete the project quickly. He says if they did partial lane closures it would take a lot longer. “We’ll be able to place the beams and pour the concrete deck,” says Perez. “It’s a process that could sometimes take months. But in this case we’re doing it over a series of weekends. So we want to get it done quick and make sure we’re out of there just in time for the Super Bowl coming up.”Weather permitting, TxDOT also plans to close I-45 on the weekends of November 18-21, December 2-5, and December 9-12. The plan is to reopen the West Dallas bridge by late December or early January. New entrance ramps from Allen Parkway and Houston Avenue are expected to open at the same time.  So what do drivers need to know this weekend?  All main lanes of I-45 will close at 9:00 PM Friday between I-10 and U.S. 59. If you’re traveling northbound, you’ll be detoured to U.S. 59 northbound to I-10 westbound to re-enter I-45. If you’re southbound, you’ll be detoured to I-10 eastbound to U.S. 59 southbound and then back to I-45.   Xcenter_img To embed this piece of audio in your site, please use this code: – / 5last_img read more

After A Day Of Legal Shock And Awe Whats Next For The

first_imgAlex Wong/Getty ImagesSpecial counsel Robert Mueller (left) arrives at the U.S. Capitol for closed meeting with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 21 in Washington, D.C.Five months into his mandate, Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller III unleashed a legal version of “shock and awe” on Monday with criminal charges against President Trump’s former campaign chairman and a guilty plea by a foreign policy aide.Mueller made no public comment about the charges or the next steps in an investigation that’s irritating the White House and riveting the nation. But there are some clues in the court documents about where the former FBI director and his investigators may be heading.1. The Foreign Agents Registration ActAmong the charges facing former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his right-hand man Richard Gates is failing to register as agents of a foreign government, and making false and misleading statements about that. The grand jury indictment unsealed Monday accuses the men of working on behalf of Ukraine and telling the Justice Department their activities “did not include meetings or outreach within the U.S.”Those charges are controversial, in part because violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act are rarely enforced. Kevin Downing, a lawyer for Manafort, told reporters outside the courthouse that prosecutors have used that “very novel” charge only six times since 1966, winning just one conviction. On Capitol Hill, however, Senate Republican Charles Grassley of Iowa offered praise for that approach: “It’s good to see the Justice Department taking seriously its responsibility to enforce” the law, Grassley said in a written statement.“I’ve been raising concerns about lackluster enforcement of this foreign influence disclosure law for years now, regardless of administration or political party,” he added. “The dirty little secret is that lots of people across the political spectrum in Washington have skirted their FARA obligations for years now with little to no accountability.”Grassley convened an oversight hearing on the issue in July, flagging work by Mercury LLC and the Podesta Group on behalf of what he calls “a front for the Ukrainian government.” The firms are mentioned in the indictment as “Company A” and “Company B.” A prominent Democratic lobbyist, Tony Podesta, announced he would step down from that firm Monday after the charges became public. At least one other person with ties to the Trump campaign, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, belatedly filed a foreign agent registration with the Justice Department this year connected with his work on behalf of Turkey. He has not been charged with a crime.2. Will Manafort fight?Despite an onslaught of pressure from federal investigators, including an FBI raid on his residence in July, Manafort has steadfastly denied wrongdoing, and people close to Manafort say he has little of use to offer the special counsel.Even so, the 31-page indictment suggests that federal investigators are not finished squeezing him. Authorities want to seize Manafort’s properties in New York and Virginia, at a time when he’s already strapped for cash. The court papers refer to business dealings with Manafort’s daughter and son-in-law, who have not been publicly charged with any crimes. And the Manafort indictment doesn’t refer to contacts between Manafort and Russians with close ties to Vladimir Putin, despite media reports that he emailed with a longtime Ukrainian client in Putin’s camp to offer private briefings on the election.3. Fallout from the Papadopoulos pleaThe guilty plea by George Papadopoulos, a 30-year-old former foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, detailed a series of contacts he had with people close to the Russian government in 2016. The court documents said Papadopoulos reported his conversations to a “supervisor” and “high-ranking” members of the campaign team.Investigators said that after his secret arrest in July, Papadopoulos has been meeting with the government “on numerous occasions to provide information and answer questions.”The message: He may be offering evidence against others still under investigation. Other people inside the Trump campaign also are said to have received overtures from Russians or Russian agents at about the same time that Trump named Papadopoulos as an adviser. One of them, Carter Page, traveled to Moscow at least twice last year.Thomas Breen and Robert Stanley, lawyers for Papadopoulos, said they had to refrain from comment on the case for now. But, they added, “We will have the opportunity to comment on George’s involvement when called upon by the court at a later date. We look forward to telling all of the details of George’s story at that time.”4. Will Mueller keep his job?Congressional Democrats reacted quickly after the indictments to insist that the independence of special counsel Mueller and his team must be protected. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the rule of law is “paramount.”“The president must not, under any circumstances, interfere with the special counsel’s work in any way,” Schumer added. “If he does so, Congress must respond swiftly, unequivocally, and in a bipartisan way to ensure that the investigation continues.”At the White House, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said there was “no intention or plan to make any changes in regards to the special counsel.”Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow told CNN he’s had no conversations with Trump about issuing pardons for Manafort or others implicated in the Russia investigation. But Mueller could charge more people in Trump’s world and bring even more heat onto the president’s camp — which might prompt Trump to revise his thinking about trying to get rid of the special counsel. And legal experts say they don’t know what might happen if Trump exercises his sweeping power to pardon people in a way that obstructs the Mueller probe.Copyright 2017 NPR.
